In the workplace, working at height requires specialist expertise to ensure safety. This advanced course equips you with the essential practical skills to manage these hazards, protecting both you and your work area.
The practice-focused programme is structured around practical modules. You will learn to use a work positioning lanyard safely and install temporary anchor points. You will also develop skills in installing temporary lifelines and using a self-retracting fall arrest system.
By the end of the day, you will have developed proficiency in the advanced use of fall arrest equipment. You will be able to set up temporary anchors and lifelines independently and operate self-retracting systems. These skills will enable you to work confidently and safely in complex working-at-height situations.
Objectives
By the end of this advanced working-at-height safety course, you will be able to:
- use a work positioning lanyard safely to work hands-free;
- install temporary anchor points by identifying and setting up class B temporary points;
- set up suitable temporary lifelines, including class B lifelines;
- implement a self-retracting fall arrest device, selecting the appropriate anchor and installing the system.
Program
Please note: these modules focus entirely on acquiring and strengthening practical skills through realistic scenarios and hands-on exercises.
Module 1: use a work positioning lanyard
- Safe use of a lanyard for hands-free work positioning.
- Checking equipment and attachment points.
Module 2: install temporary anchors
- Identifying and installing temporary anchor points (class B).
- Applying anchor-specific safety instructions.
- Performing the necessary strength tests.
Module 3: deploy temporary lifelines
- Installing temporary lifelines (class B).
- Checking tension and inspecting devices.
Module 4: use a self-retracting fall arrest system
- Choosing the appropriate anchor.
- Installing the system.
Audience
This course is intended for:
- users required to work at height in situations involving the installation of anchors, lifelines or fall arrest systems;
- anyone exposed to the risk of falling from height who uses personal protective equipment (PPE).
Prerequisites
This course requires the following prerequisite:
- Current medical clearance for working at height. This requirement is essential to ensure your safety and ability to complete practical exercises safely.
