This course helps participants develop constructive, positive communication within their team or organisation. Assertive communication means expressing your ideas and position without being passive or aggressive. It involves tools and approaches that develop assertiveness while respecting others.
Objectives
The course develops techniques and a new approach to communicating with colleagues. Participants will learn to:

Day 1
- The importance and impact of relationships within teams and organisations.
- Defining assertiveness.
- Characteristics of an assertive person.
- Relationship behaviours: passivity, aggression, manipulation and assertiveness.
- Self-assessment of your predominant relationship behaviour.
- Responding to different behaviours in your professional environment.
- Identifying barriers to asserting your position.
Day 2
- Providing constructive criticism.
- Responding to constructive and unconstructive criticism.
- Expressing constructive criticism in writing.
- Setting boundaries and saying no.
- Making requests to express a need.
- Positive recognition: giving, receiving, declining, recognising yourself and asking for recognition.
