Designer

A designer develops proposals that connect a user's needs with a visual, functional or technical solution. The role involves exploring a brief, generating alternatives and presenting choices that can be discussed and improved before implementation.

A coherent design process moves between research, sketches, prototypes and feedback. Designers explain why a proposal suits its purpose and check that practical constraints have been considered. Digital creation and drafting tools support this work, but selecting a tool should follow the needs of the project rather than replace analysis and judgement.
