Presentation
As data volumes grow rapidly, the ability to make data understandable is a strategic skill. This 2-day course introduces Microsoft Power BI, a leading business intelligence tool. It is designed to make you operationally effective, able to transform raw data into impactful decision-support dashboards.
The course covers the entire data value chain. First, learn to connect and clean your sources, including Excel, the web and databases, with Power Query. Then discover how to model this information and create precise indicators using DAX. Finally, apply your creativity to design interactive visualisations and share them through Power BI Service.
The approach is firmly practical: alternating theory and workshops, you will build a complete report step by step, simulating a real business case so you can apply your new skills immediately.
Objectives
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- identify data visualisation principles for creating relevant reports;
- import, transform and clean data from multiple sources with Power Query;
- model data relationships and create calculated measures with DAX;
- design dynamic dashboards with filters and interactions;
- publish and share reports securely through Power BI Service.
Program
Day 1: importing, preparing and transforming data
- The Power BI ecosystem: distinguishing Desktop, Service and Mobile.
- Connecting to data sources: Excel and CSV files, and web sources.
- Cleaning and transforming with Power Query: merging, joining and creating columns.
Hands-on exercises
- Explore the interface, connect several heterogeneous sources and prepare a clean dataset for analysis.
Day 2: modelling, visualising and sharing reports
- Data modelling: managing relationships and an introduction to DAX formulas.
- Visual design: choosing visuals such as maps and line charts, filters and slicers.
- Distribution: publishing to Power BI Service and managing workspaces.
Hands-on exercises
- Create DAX measures, design a complete interactive dashboard and publish it online for sharing.
