In an uncertain environment, the ability to anticipate and manage threats has become a major competitive advantage. The ISO 31000 standard is the international reference for establishing a structured, effective risk management framework.
This 4.5-day course provides the knowledge and skills to master a risk management process aligned with ISO 31000:2018. You will learn to design, implement, monitor and improve this process within your organisation. You will also identify, analyse, evaluate and treat strategic, operational and cyber risks using the methodologies described in the IEC 31010:2019 standard.
By the end of the program, you will be able to support an organisation in leading its risk management approach and engage effectively with stakeholders on uncertainty. You will be ready to take the official PECB Certified ISO 31000 Lead Risk Manager exam, included in our offer (see the Certification tab for details).
Objectives
By the end of this PECB ISO 31000 Lead Risk Manager course, you will be able to:
- explain fundamental risk management principles under ISO 31000:2018;
- establish and integrate a risk management framework suited to the organisation's context;
- initiate the risk management process and conduct risk assessments;
- apply risk treatment and ensure recording and reporting;
- monitor, review and continually improve the risk management framework, and ensure communication and consultation;
- prepare for and pass the PECB Certified ISO 31000 Lead Risk Manager exam to earn the associated certification.

Day 1: Understanding ISO 31000 and the framework
- Course objectives and standards and regulatory frameworks.
- ISO 31000:2018 fundamental principles: value creation, integration and structure.
- Leadership, commitment and risk governance.
- Designing and implementing the organisational risk management framework.
Day 2: Establishing the context and assessing risks
- Defining scope and establishing internal, external and risk management contexts.
- Risk identification: sources, causes and potential consequences.
- Risk analysis: the nature of risk and determining its level.
- Risk evaluation: comparing analysis results with risk criteria.
- Selecting and implementing risk treatment options.
Day 3: Treating, communicating and monitoring risks
- Risk acceptance and residual risk management.
- Developing a stakeholder communication and consultation plan.
- Recording activities and preparing management reports.
- Monitoring, reviewing and continually improving the framework and process.
Day 4: Mastering IEC 31010 risk assessment techniques
- Brainstorming and information-gathering techniques.
- Cause and consequence analysis: Bow-tie, Ishikawa and 5 Whys.
- Failure mode analysis (FMECA/FMEA) and reliability.
- Simulation and scenario analysis methods: Monte Carlo and decision trees.
- Assessing risk likelihood and impact.
- Selecting an appropriate technique for the context.
Day 5 (half-day): Preparing for the PECB ISO 31000 Lead Risk Manager exam
- Reviewing key concepts and skills acquired throughout the course.
- Exam structure and format.
- Advice and tips for exam success.
