Presentation
Occupational accidents and illnesses impose major human and financial costs on organisations. The ISO 45001 standard, including its 2024 climate change amendment, provides an international framework for a healthy working environment that protects employees and external parties against physical and psychological harm.
This 4.5-day course develops the knowledge and skills to implement and manage an occupational health and safety management system (OH&S MS) compliant with ISO 45001:2018, using the PECB IMS2 methodology. You will learn to initiate implementation, define appropriate control and monitoring tools, and engage your organisation in continual improvement.
By the end, you will be ready to take the official PECB Certified ISO 45001 Lead Implementer exam, included in our offer. This certification recognises your experience and strengthens your credibility as the person responsible for your organisation's OH&S management system (see the Certification tab for details).
Objectives
By the end of ISO 45001 Lead Implementer training, you will be able to:
- explain OH&S management system fundamentals based on ISO 45001:2018;
- interpret ISO 45001 requirements as the person responsible for implementation;
- initiate and plan implementation using PECB's IMS2 methodology and other good practices;
- support an organisation in operating, maintaining and continually improving its OH&S MS;
- prepare an organisation for a third-party ISO 45001 certification audit;
- prepare for and pass the PECB Certified ISO 45001 Lead Implementer exam to earn an associated certification.
Program
Day 1: introduce the OH&S MS defined by ISO 45001:2018
- Introduction to management systems and the process approach.
- Occupational health and safety fundamentals.
- Introduction to ISO 45001:2018 and its 2024 climate change amendment.
Day 2: plan OH&S MS implementation
- Defining the scope.
- Developing the OH&S policy and objectives.
- Selecting an approach and method for identifying, assessing and controlling risks.
Day 3: establish an ISO 45001-based OH&S MS
- Establishing a document management structure.
- Designing safety measures and drafting procedures.
- Implementing safety measures.
- Communicating about occupational health and safety.
- Implementing safety measures and response processes.
Day 4: control, monitor, measure and improve the OH&S MS
- Controlling and monitoring the OH&S MS.
- Developing metrics, performance indicators and dashboards.
- ISO 45001 internal auditing.
- OH&S MS management review.
- Implementing a continual improvement programme.
Day 5 (half-day): prepare for the PECB ISO 45001 Lead Implementer exam
- Review of key concepts and skills developed throughout the course.
- Introduction to exam structure and format.
- Advice and tips for exam success.
