ISO/IEC 42001 provides a framework for developing, implementing and continually improving an artificial intelligence management system (AIMS). Its purpose is to ensure the quality and effectiveness of processes and practices within companies. For audits, it provides requirements for assessing AI risk management, regulatory compliance, process transparency and accountability in the deployment and operation of artificial intelligence technologies.
By attending this ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor course, you will acquire the skills to distinguish yourself in AI management system auditing. You will develop the expertise to operate confidently in a complex environment shaped by this technology. The course also helps you understand ISO 42001:2023 requirements to support companies as they develop in the digital transformation era.
This online course prepares you to take the exam leading to the official PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor credential (see the certification tab for details). This certification demonstrates your professional ability to audit organisations against the international standard, applying good practices for AIMS auditing.
Objectives
By completing this course, you will achieve the following learning objectives:
- understand the concepts and foundations of an AI management system based on ISO/IEC 42001:2023;
- understand ISO/IEC 42001 requirements for auditing;
- assess an AIMS against ISO/IEC 42001 requirements in accordance with audit foundations and principles;
- plan, conduct and close an ISO 42001 conformity audit following ISO/IEC 17021-1 requirements, ISO 19011 guidelines and good auditing practices;
- manage an ISO/IEC 42001 audit programme;
- pass the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor exam and obtain one of the 4 associated credentials.

Day 1
- Round-table discussion:
- individual introductions;
- exploring each participant's expectations and objectives;
- introduction to the course framework;
- alignment with specific objectives and challenges;
- identifying participants' individual expectations and perspectives.
- Presentation of artificial intelligence management system (AIMS) concepts and principles.
- Presentation of ISO/IEC 42001 principles and audit requirements.
Day 2
- Principles, preparation and initiation of an AIMS audit under ISO/IEC 42001:2023.
Day 3
- On-site audit activities.
Day 4
- Closing the audit.
Final half-day: certification exam
- Review of key concepts and skills acquired throughout the course.
- Taking the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor certification exam.
