Clean Architecture is a transformative approach to designing technology-independent applications. Placing business rules at the heart of your architecture improves flexibility, testability and maintainability.
During this intensive course, you will explore the fundamental principles of Clean Architecture and apply them in Node.js (TypeScript) projects. Through Test-Driven Development, you will develop the skills to write quality code from the outset. You will also explore key concepts such as CQRS and Domain-Driven Design to design flexible architectures tailored to your needs.
This 2-day programme provides key techniques for designing and developing modern, robust and scalable applications. You will be able to make informed architectural decisions and deliver complex projects.
Important: to ensure an optimal learning experience, this course is limited to groups of 4 to 10 participants.
Objectives
By the end of this Clean Architecture course, you will be able to:
- master Clean Architecture and dependency inversion;
- develop high-quality applications using Test-Driven Development (TDD);
- design organised, scalable folder structures for any project;
- strengthen code reliability through comprehensive test coverage, supporting confidence and regular deployments;
- implement different types of tests to ensure quality at every level;
- continuously improve code through safe refactoring.
Program
Day 1: introduction to TDD and Clean Architecture fundamentals
- Welcome and introductions:
- your expectations and an overview of the planned programme.
- TDD in action:
- discover how Test-Driven Development naturally guides you towards clean, maintainable architecture through a demonstration using a small practical project.
- Clean Architecture fundamentals:
- explore clean code architecture principles and understand their relationship with TDD.
- Pilot project demonstration:
- collaboratively breaking down use cases;
- applying Domain-Driven Design;
- isolating and adjusting core functionality;
- outside-in Test-Driven Development.
Day 2: deepening knowledge and developing skills
- Integration and advanced testing:
- integrate your application with a database using Testcontainers and PostgreSQL.
- Command/query separation:
- explore the CQRS pattern and learn to separate read and write operations.
- Object-oriented programming:
- deepen your object-oriented development knowledge and master key concepts.

This course is intended for:
- professionals with at least 2 years of back-end development experience, including:
- back-end developers seeking deeper software architecture knowledge and the next step in their development;
- technical leads seeking to optimise the design and maintenance of their teams' applications;
- software architects looking for new approaches to designing more robust, scalable systems.
Prerequisites
The following prerequisites apply:
- Equipment: a computer with a camera, microphone and stable internet connection.
- Software:
- the latest stable version of Node.js (French page);
- the latest stable version of Docker;
- a development environment such as Visual Studio Code or WebStorm (French page).
- Skills:
- solid JavaScript and TypeScript knowledge, including types and interfaces;
- experience writing unit tests;
- basic knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts.
Technical stack: NestJS, TypeScript, Vitest, Testcontainers, MikroORM, PostgreSQL and Docker.
