Presentation
Clean architecture is a transformative approach that enables you to design technology-independent applications. By placing business rules at the heart of your architecture, you gain flexibility, testability and maintainability.
This intensive 2-day course explores React.js, Clean Architecture and TDD. You will learn to structure React applications, write unit and integration tests, and model your business domain using Domain-Driven Design. Combining these approaches enables you to create applications suited to your business needs.
Through live coding demonstrations and live practical exercises, you will develop the skills to design and build high-performing, scalable applications. You will be able to make informed architectural decisions and deliver complex projects.
Important: to ensure an optimal learning experience, this course is limited to groups of 4 to 10 participants.
Objectives
By the end of this clean architecture course, you will be able to:
- fully understand clean architecture and dependency inversion;
- develop high-quality applications using Test-Driven Development (TDD);
- design organised, scalable folder structures for any project;
- strengthen code reliability through comprehensive test coverage to support confidence and regular deployments;
- implement different test types to ensure quality at every level;
- continuously improve your code through safe refactoring.
Program
Day 1: introduction to TDD and clean architecture fundamentals
- Welcome and introductions:
- your expectations and an overview of the planned program.
- TDD in action:
- discover how test-driven development naturally guides you towards clean, maintainable architecture, demonstrated through a small, practical project.
- Clean architecture fundamentals:
- explore clean code architecture principles and understand how they relate to TDD.
- Pilot project demonstration:
- collaboratively break down use cases;
- apply Domain-Driven Design;
- isolate and refine core functionality;
- practise outside-in test-driven development.
Day 2: deeper exploration and skills development
- Introduction to refactoring:
- why refactor?
- different types of refactoring;
- tools and best practices.
- Integrating external APIs:
- API call fundamentals;
- choosing the right API.
- Introduction to mocks:
- what is a mock?
- what are mocks used for?
- introduction to Mock Service Worker (MSW).
- Advanced use of mocks with MSW:
- create realistic mocks;
- isolate tests;
- optimise tests.
- Discussion of trade-offs:
- advantages and disadvantages of mocks;
- other testing techniques;
- when to use each technique.
Audience
This course is intended for:
- professionals with at least 2 years of back-end development experience, including:
- back-end developers seeking to deepen their software architecture knowledge and progress to the next level;
- technical leads seeking to optimise application design and maintenance within their teams;
- software architects seeking new approaches to designing more robust, scalable systems.
