Objectives
By the end of this mining logistics course, you will be able to:
- structure an efficient end-to-end logistics chain;
- identify suitable suppliers for every stage of the supply chain;
- use tools to change suppliers and transfer responsibilities along the chain;
- implement mechanisms to create full visibility across the logistics chain;
- use Microsoft Excel to manage relationships with logistics suppliers, internal customers and management;
- organise logistics data collection, establish a reporting system and ensure document archiving.
Program
Module 1: analyse and structure the logistics chain
- In-depth examination of an existing logistics chain's structure or design of a new chain to implement.
- Identifying the different key stages within the logistics chain.
- Defining the documents to produce at each stage of the process.
Module 2: strategically select and manage logistics suppliers
- Defining specific requirements for each stage in terms of professionalism, financial costs, expertise and reporting.
- Dividing the logistics chain into a maximum of 2 or 3 stages and deciding how to allocate tasks between suppliers.
- Distinguishing between local and international logistics.
- Categorising the logistics chain and assigning suppliers by category.
- Establishing the types of documents to generate at each stage and defining criteria for transferring responsibility between suppliers.
Module 3: create visibility across the logistics chain
- Tools for creating visibility (using Excel, document sharing, folder structuring, logistics data collection, reporting systems and document archiving).
- Effective operational communication methods between suppliers, the logistics department and the customer.
Module 4: manage supplier performance
- Defining each supplier's specific responsibilities and the documents they must provide.
- Establishing operational and financial reporting for each supplier.
- Operational monitoring by supplier: identifying stages, required lead times and performance indicators.
- Regular analysis of supplier performance against project needs (minimum/maximum).
