Presentation
Effective operation of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems is essential for occupant comfort, building energy performance and regulatory compliance. This 2-day course provides fundamental knowledge and practical tools to manage the entire lifecycle of your HVAC installations.
The programme goes beyond routine maintenance. You will develop an in-depth understanding of how installations operate (boilers, chillers, air handling units and VRV/VRF systems), everyday operating procedures and methods for diagnosing common faults.
Focused on field application, the course enables you to incorporate preventive and corrective maintenance best practices, rigorously apply safety standards relating to refrigerants and thermal hazards, and above all optimise your equipment's energy performance to achieve substantial savings.
Objectives
By the end of this HVAC systems course, you will be able to:
- Interpret the architecture and operating principles of HVAC systems (boilers, air handling units, VRV, etc.) to understand component interactions;
- deploy structured preventive maintenance plans and effective corrective maintenance methods to ensure equipment reliability and service life;
- ensure HVAC regulatory compliance, particularly for refrigerants and risk prevention (Legionnaires' disease and thermal hazards);
- quickly diagnose root causes of failures and correct common faults using a proven troubleshooting methodology;
- improve HVAC energy efficiency through operating best practices and by identifying optimisation opportunities using centralised technical and building management systems (GTC/GTB) for lasting savings.
Program
Module 1: Understanding HVAC system architecture and operation
- Fundamental heating, ventilation and air conditioning principles (applied thermodynamics).
- Main components: boilers, chillers, air handling units (AHUs) and VRV/VRF systems.
- Interpreting system schematics and hydraulic/airflow circuits.
Module 2: Operating installations and mastering control
- Mastering everyday operating procedures and daily checks.
- Configuring and controlling systems for optimal operation (temperature, humidity and airflow).
- Advanced use of centralised technical and building management systems (GTC/GTB) for remote control and supervision.
Module 3: Deploying preventive maintenance and managing parts
- Developing a structured preventive maintenance plan (plans, intervals and systematic checks).
- Managing spare parts and consumables (critical stock and suppliers) to minimise response times.
- Writing maintenance records and ensuring intervention traceability.
Module 4: Ensuring corrective maintenance and compliance
- Fault diagnosis: root cause analysis methodology and key steps for effective troubleshooting.
- Applying regulations: standards, obligations (particularly refrigerant management) and risk prevention (thermal, electrical and Legionnaires' disease).
- Implementing reliability improvements to prevent recurring incidents.
Module 5: Optimising energy performance and reviewing outcomes
- HVAC energy audits: consumption measurement methods and identifying savings opportunities.
- Applying operating best practices to reduce consumption and innovative solutions (heat recovery and free cooling).
- Analysing results and developing a continuous improvement plan for HVAC systems.
Practical exercises and case studies
- Interpret complex HVAC schematics and identify installation weaknesses.
- Simulate diagnosis of typical faults through a case study and justify the troubleshooting procedure.
- Design a customised preventive maintenance plan for critical equipment.
