This course aims to give participants a firm understanding of personal data legislation (GDPR) applicable in Africa and the knowledge needed to bring their organisation into compliance with this new European regulation.

The right to personal data protection and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) impose obligations on digital stakeholders, including governments, businesses and individuals. Its entry into force on 25 May 2018 has major implications for companies processing Europeans' personal data.

Objectives

By the end of these two days of training, you will have achieved the following objectives:

  • understand the legal framework, including fundamental concepts in personal data protection;
  • understand the issues surrounding the right to personal data protection;
  • know how to update obligations relating to the application of the GDPR;
  • recognise the challenges of regulating personal data;
  • gain theoretical and operational knowledge of personal data regulation;
  • prevent risks arising from non-compliance.
