Presentation
In a demanding professional environment, the quality of human interaction is a driver of performance. Yet stress, unspoken concerns and misunderstandings create tension, undermine team cohesion and reduce productivity.
This 2-day course takes an experiential approach to developing your interpersonal skills. You will move from theory, including nonviolent communication and assertiveness, to intensive practice through self-assessments, role plays and workshops on active listening and constructive feedback.
The aim is to equip you to express yourself with consideration and respect, even when you disagree. You will leave with an action plan for handling tense situations and making positive communication a driver of cooperation and workplace wellbeing.
Objectives
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- identify verbal behaviours, including tone and word choice, and non-verbal behaviours, including posture, that build trust or mistrust;
- understand communication mechanisms, including biases, filters and judgements, and their impact on relationships;
- adopt an assertive approach, neither aggressive nor passive, to express yourself clearly and considerately while respecting your own boundaries and knowing how to say no;
- provide constructive feedback using the DESC method, factual criticism or recognition using nonviolent communication;
- practise active listening and empathy to understand the other person's actual needs beyond their words;
- prevent misunderstandings by moving from interpretations to facts and clarifying requests;
- cultivate a positive, solution-focused mindset to manage tense situations and encourage cooperation.
