Presentation
In Africa and worldwide, organisations increasingly face questions about their impact on economic development, their relationships with communities and the social and environmental risks of their activities.
At the same time, procurement, averaging 40–60% of turnover, is an essential lever for performance.
Responsible procurement, at the intersection of economic performance and societal challenges, has emerged over the past decade. It is essential for senior management and managers involved in purchasing to understand and adopt it.
Objectives
Procurement is a key function in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). It operates across the organisation and creates momentum that engages suppliers and service providers. Responsible procurement approaches create new opportunities by stimulating innovation. They are also important tools for managing regulatory and reputational risks. This course aims to:
- Raise awareness of opportunities and risks associated with sustainable development challenges for the activities and performance of the procurement department and the company.
- Provide the technical background needed to implement responsible procurement in Africa, particularly CSR terminology and frameworks.
- Introduce the tools available to senior management and those involved in purchasing to build a structured responsible procurement approach.
- Enable participants to launch initial calls for tenders while recognising relevant environmental, ethical and fair trade arguments.
