Presentation
This course addresses spatial analysis using the tools available in ArcGIS Desktop. Drawing on the discipline's fundamental concepts, participants learn to build complete data processing workflows for analysing and answering spatial planning questions. Exercises based on varied thematic datasets teach the geoprocessing techniques needed to develop and use a geographic database.
The course covers ModelBuilder and existing scripts in ArcToolbox. It introduces script creation with Python but does not include a course in the language itself.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to automate data analysis workflows.
Objectives
The course focuses on spatial analysis, integration of spatial and tabular data, geometric construction functions and advanced map display options. Participants acquire fundamental concepts in spatial algebra, topology and spatial analysis. They learn to use the power of ArcGIS Desktop analysis tools to build complete data processing workflows. They learn batch geoprocessing tools in ArcToolbox, script creation and SQL for data analysis before processing in ArcGIS. Participants also learn to use R-ArcGIS Bridge to connect R processing with ArcGIS.
