In the workplace, occupational accidents require specialist expertise to ensure safety and a prompt response. This course provides the essential skills to respond effectively to a workplace accident and help prevent occupational risks within your organisation.
This 2-day SST course is structured into practical modules with a strong hands-on focus. You will learn how the workplace first aider (SST) fits into an organisation and understand the relevant legal and regulatory framework. You will master techniques to protect casualties and witnesses, assess casualties and alert emergency services. Applying appropriate first aid to situations such as bleeding, sudden illness and burns is another key skill you will develop. You will also identify risks specific to your organisation's activities and complete practical exercises tailored to your context.
By the end of this first aid training, you will be able to apply first aid techniques independently and confidently and respond effectively to different workplace accident situations. These skills will enable you to contribute actively to protecting people and preventing occupational risks.
Objectives
By the end of this SST course, you will be able to:
- Contribute actively to preventing occupational risks within your organisation;
- Position the SST role within the organisation, understanding its legal and regulatory framework and its contribution to occupational risk prevention;
- Master protection techniques by identifying persistent hazards, eliminating or isolating them, and protecting casualties and witnesses without putting yourself at risk;
- Assess casualties systematically by checking responsiveness and breathing and looking for visible signs of injury;
- Alert emergency services by understanding your organisation's specific reporting procedures and providing the necessary information;
- Apply appropriate first aid in situations involving external bleeding, airway obstruction, loss of consciousness, sudden illness, burns, pain and wounds;
- Identify specific risks associated with your organisation's activities and complete practical exercises tailored to the workplace context.

Module 1: Positioning the SST role within the organisation
- The legal and regulatory framework for the workplace first aider (Sauveteur Secouriste du Travail — SST).
- Identifying the SST's role in preventing occupational risks.
Module 2: Protecting casualties and witnesses
- Identifying persistent hazards.
- Eliminating or isolating hazards.
- Protecting casualties and witnesses while minimising risks to yourself.
Module 3: Assessing the casualty
- Assessing the casualty's responsiveness.
- Checking the casualty's breathing.
- Looking for visible signs of injury.
Module 4: Alerting emergency services
- Understanding the organisation's specific emergency reporting procedures.
- Providing the necessary information to external emergency services.
Module 5: Providing first aid to the casualty
- Applying appropriate first aid for external bleeding.
- Managing airway obstruction.
- Responding to loss of consciousness with or without breathing.
- Managing sudden illness.
- Treating burns, pain and wounds.
Module 6: Adapting first aid to the organisation's specific risks
- Identifying risks specific to the organisation's activities or industry.
