Certification CISSP® : Certified Information Systems Security Professional
Cybercrime has been increasing at an alarming rate, and businesses are recruiting more specialists to improve their protection and secure their information systems. CISSP® certification holders are among the professionals best equipped to meet this challenge. Recognised worldwide, these certifications developed by ISC2® attest to highly specialised cybersecurity skills and knowledge.
CISSP® certification at a glance
CISSP® stands for Certified Information Systems Security Professional and is one of the most sought-after cybersecurity certifications. It was named the best certification in 2019 by the American magazine Forbes. Introduced in the United States in 1994, it has historically been among the most demanding cybersecurity certifications and was one of the first to be established.
Like other certifications such as ISO 27001, it is intended for individuals rather than companies. It is designed for IT security professionals, including information security managers, architects, security systems engineers, IT consultants and SOC analysts.
As regards the certification process, CISSP® certification is overseen by the American organisation ISC2®, of which we are a partner. ISC2® stands for International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium.
How can you earn CISSP® certification?
To earn CISSP® certification, you must meet 4 requirements:
- Adhere to the ISC2® Code of Ethics
Every prospective certified information security professional acknowledges that this prestigious credential must be earned and maintained. CISSP® is valid for 3 years.
- Acquire skills and knowledge
To obtain certification, we recommend taking a CISSP® preparation course such as ours. Over 5 days, you will study the 8 domains of the CISSP® CBK and have your skills and understanding assessed.
- Pass the CISSP examination and have professional experience
Given the level of expertise required for CISSP®, you must pass the official examination through Pearson Vue and demonstrate 5 years of continuous professional experience in 2 of the 8 domains of the ISC2® CISSP® Common Body of Knowledge (CBK).
Submit your certification application
After passing the examination with the required score of 700 out of 1000, you must submit evidence to ISC2® of your cybersecurity experience over the past 5 years. Oo2 will, of course, support you throughout this process.
This period can be reduced to 4 years if you hold a qualification equivalent to 4 years of higher education or above. If you do not yet have the required experience, you may apply provided you have a CISSP®-certified sponsor. You can then become an Associate of ISC2® and earn the CISSP® credential once you have gained the necessary experience.
What are CISSP® ISSAP, CISSP® ISSEP and CISSP® ISSMP certifications?
In addition to CISSP®, CISSP® ISSAP, CISSP® ISSEP and CISSP® ISSMP certifications are part of the qualification pathway. Known as CISSP Concentrations, they offer a further step for professionals wishing to specialise in cybersecurity.
CISSP® ISSAP certification
CISSP® ISSAP is primarily aimed at architects and analysts responsible for information systems security. It builds on CISSP® and the Common Body of Knowledge. Ideal for strengthening your skills and developing a specialism, it validates advanced expertise in threats, technologies, regulations, standards and best practices for security architecture design.
CISSP® ISSEP certification
Whether you are an experienced systems engineer, an information systems security manager or a security analyst, CISSP® ISSEP enables you to become a certified information systems security engineering specialist. Also based on the CBK®, it validates your ability to apply principles and processes to design secure systems.
