Presentation
This course teaches participants the essential Illustrator functions for producing high-quality vector images quickly and efficiently.
It enables them to draw, transform, colour and style graphic objects, including illustrations, pictograms, logos and documentation, and to prepare visuals for print or the web.
Note: Adobe Illustrator Level 2 and Adobe Illustrator Level 3 courses can be arranged on request.
Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will have all the Adobe Illustrator basics needed to optimise the quality of their visuals.
They will know how to use the appropriate tools to produce professional-quality files and documents.
Program
Discovering Illustrator: its different applications (illustrations, logos, pictograms and page layouts); document formats and the crop area tool; customising the interface (artboard and panels); outline and preview display modes.
Drawing with geometric tools: rectangle, circle, polygon, star and triangle tools; strokes (weight, end caps and line styles); selection tools.
Transforming objects with Illustrator
- Transformation tools: scaling, rotation, reflection and twisting.
- Pathfinder tools: creating complex shapes.
- Distortion effects.
- Shape blends.
Applying colour
- Customise your swatches: solid colours, gradients and patterns.
- Colour modes: CMYK, RGB and Pantone.
- Define global or dynamic colours.
Drawing freeform paths
- The Paintbrush and Pencil tools.
- Drawing with the Pen tool.
Editing and styling text
- Enter point text, area text and type on a path.
- Format characters and paragraphs.
- Convert text to outlines.
Customising Illustrator designs
- Transparency and blending modes: Multiply, Overlay, Difference and more.
- Effects: distortion, artistic and more.
- Live tracing a drawing or photograph.
Optimising production
- Smart Guides and the grid.
- Layers.
- Clean up stray points, invisible objects and empty text paths.
- Flatten transparency.
- Manage bleed and add crop marks.
- Exchange files with other Adobe software: Photoshop, Flash and InDesign.
- Different save formats for print and the web.
Prerequisites
Participants must be proficient with personal computers and office applications. This is a beginner-level course.
