Presentation
During this course, participants acquire the essential Photoshop skills to resize, crop and retouch the colours and imperfections in their photographs. They also learn the main image cutout techniques in Photoshop and how to prepare visuals for print or the web.
Note: Photoshop Level 2 and Photoshop Level 3 courses can be arranged on request.
Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will have all the Photoshop basics needed to optimise the quality of their visuals. They will know how to use the appropriate tools to cut out or retouch a photograph in Photoshop.
Program
Discovering Photoshop
- The interface and tools
- Open, close and arrange panels; save your workspaces.
- Choose resolution and colour modes.
- Understand the importance of colour modes, image resolutions for print, the web or slide shows, and their optimal file formats.
- Frame and resize images in Photoshop: crop, straighten and extend the canvas.
- Slice a design for the web.
Cutting out images
- Create cutouts; add to, subtract from and save floating selections.
- Edge detection radius and colour decontamination for cutouts.
- Cut out images with sharp edges for print using a vector path.
- Import images into web or print applications to view the cutout.
Repairing images
- Clone and remove imperfections with the Clone Stamp and Healing tools.
- Fill missing areas using content-aware analysis.
- Create simple patterns and use the Pattern Stamp tool.
- Use professional filters to soften and sharpen images.
Colour correction basics
- Correct tone and saturation and adjust image colours.
- Use colour correction brushes.
- Replace a colour or an element using colour ranges.
Compositing layer basics
- Create, duplicate and link layers to create photomontages.
- Use layer masks and clipping masks on your layers: the basics.
- Apply transparency, blending modes and effects.
- Use text, shape and adjustment layers.
Saving/exporting files
- Save your design file.
- Optimise files for the web, slide shows and print.
Prerequisites
Participants must be proficient with personal computers and office applications. This is a beginner-level course.
