IT / Information Systems Architect

An IT or information systems architect designs the structure of technology solutions so that infrastructure, applications and data support organisational needs. The role translates requirements into coherent technical choices and considers how new services will fit into the existing environment. Depending on the organisation, responsibilities may focus on networks, platforms or a wider information system.

Sound technical architecture balances interoperability, security, availability and the ability to evolve. Architects compare options, describe interfaces and document the reasoning behind important decisions. They work with delivery and operations teams to identify dependencies, anticipate constraints and maintain consistency as projects move from design into service.
