Presentation

Junos OS is the operating system developed by Juniper Networks for its routing, security and switching devices. This course covers Junos OS fundamentals, including initial configuration, user interfaces, the command line, routing and firewalls.

Objectives

Gain the foundational knowledge needed to use and configure the Junos operating system. After reviewing Junos devices and the main architectural components, you will explore key topics such as the user interface, particularly the command-line interface (CLI). You will learn device installation configuration tasks, network monitoring and maintenance, routing and firewalls. The course combines theory and practical workshops so you can apply your new skills in realistic situations.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • describe Junos OS basic architecture;
  • use the Junos command-line interface;
  • perform tasks through the CLI and configuration modes;
  • restore a Junos device to its default state;
  • perform initial configuration tasks;
  • configure and monitor network interfaces;
  • describe authentication and user configuration options;
  • perform secondary configuration tasks for services including syslog, tracing, Network Time Protocol (NTP), configuration archiving and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP);
  • monitor basic Junos OS and device operations;
  • identify and use network tools;
  • upgrade Junos OS;
  • maintain file systems and recover passwords on a Junos device;
  • navigate the Junos J-Web interface;
  • explain basic routing concepts and operations;
  • describe routing and forwarding tables;
  • configure and monitor static routing;
  • configure and monitor Open Shortest Path First (OSPF);
  • understand routing policies and firewall filters;
  • explain routing policy and firewall filter evaluation;
  • write and apply a routing policy;
  • identify situations requiring a routing policy;
  • describe Reverse Path Forwarding (RPF) operation and configuration.
