Presentation
AIX is an operating system developed and distributed by IBM (International Business Machines Corporation). Like any other operating system, AIX has many distinctive features, particularly for enterprise and mainframe environments. In this context, administrators need to understand LPAR logical partitioning on an IBM Power Systems architecture server.
Designed for IBM system administrators new to logical partitioning, this course teaches you to configure and create partitions using the Hardware Management Console (HMC).
After each lesson, you will complete practical exercises and discover methods for planning and managing logical partitions running AIX V7 or Linux. The course includes the latest changes to AIX 7.2, although most topics also apply to earlier system versions.
Objectives
By the end of the Power Systems AIX I course, you will achieve the following skills objectives:
- Understand logical and dynamic partitioning, virtual devices, virtual processors, virtual consoles, VLANs and shared processors on IBM systems with Power processors.
- Understand the technical characteristics of the different PowerVM system editions.
- Understand the features of the server Hardware Management Console (HMC).
- Configure and manage user accounts and permissions, startup and shutdown, remote access functions, network configuration, security features and the HMC reload procedure.
- Apply resource allocation methods for dedicated processors, micropartitioning processing units, memory, and physical and virtual I/O for AIX and Linux partitions.
- Configure and manage LPARs through the graphical user interface (GUI) and HMC commands.
- Power a Power Systems server on and off.
- Back up and restore partition data through the HMC.
- Perform dynamic LPAR (DLPAR) tasks.
