Presentation
The Linux LPIC-3 course forms part of the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) professional certification pathway. It is intended for experienced IT specialists who install and maintain GNU/Linux systems in mixed environments.
This 4-day course covers Samba fundamentals, Samba domains and Active Directory, share and client configuration, and Linux identity management. You will receive the LPI-300 learning kit, containing a notepad, a pen with a highlighter and the official LPIC-3 certification preparation book.
At the end of these Linux classes, a mock examination will assess your understanding of every topic covered and prepare you to take the LPIC-3 Mixed Environments 300 examination, included in our offer. Passing it earns you certification from our partner, LPI.
Objectives
The Linux LPIC-3 Mixed Environments course develops the following skills:
- Understand Samba 4.8 or later: concepts, architecture, daemon configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Manage Samba and Active Directory domains: configure Samba as an AD domain controller, manage DNS resolution, users and groups, and join Samba to an AD domain.
- Configure Samba shares: file sharing, DFS sharing, print sharing and share permissions.
- Configure Linux and Windows Samba clients.
- Manage Linux identities and file sharing: install and maintain FreeIPA, manage FreeIPA entities, integrate FreeIPA with Active Directory and manage the NFSv4 network file system.
- Pass LPI-C 3 300-100 and obtain LPIC-3 Mixed Environments certification.
Program
Understand Samba fundamentals
- Samba concepts and architecture: processes and protocols.
- Configure a Samba server and its daemons.
- Maintain Samba using tools and utilities.
- Analyse and resolve problems: logging, debugging, LDAP settings and cloning.
Configure Samba domains and Active Directory
- Configure Samba as an Active Directory domain controller.
- Resolve Active Directory names: understand Samba's internal DNS server.
- Manage Active Directory users.
- Join a Samba domain: install and configure Winbind.
- Create and manage local Samba users.
Configure Samba sharing
- Create and configure CIFS file shares.
- Secure file sharing: access control, POSIX and connection encryption.
- Configure DFS hierarchical file system sharing.
- Manage and configure print shares.
Configure Samba clients
- Manage and authenticate Linux clients: configure and use NSS, PAM, SSSD and Kerberos.
- Manage and use CIFS shares from a Linux client.
- Manage and authenticate Windows clients: Windows hosts, remote access, GPOs, login scripts and related tools.
Manage identities and file sharing
- Install, configure and maintain a FreeIPA domain.
- Manage FreeIPA entities: users, hosts and services.
- Integrate FreeIPA with Active Directory.
- Implement NFSv4: ID mapping, access controls and Kerberos authentication.
Prepare for the LPIC-3 300-300 examination
- Take a mock examination.
- Take the examination:
- Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes.
- Format: multiple-choice questions.
- Number of questions: 60.
- Languages: English or Japanese.

- Experienced Linux professionals continuing their LPIC certification pathway to specialise in enterprise-scale Linux administration in mixed environments.
Prerequisites
The Linux LPIC-3 Mixed Environments course requires:
- An active LPIC-2 certification ¹.
- At least 1 year of professional experience as a Linux administrator.
- Ability to use a command-line interface.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking fundamentals.
- A good command of English or Japanese.
