Presentation
Linux and open-source technologies are now widely used by organisations, creating a need for the skills to work with them. Linux Essentials provides the foundations to understand and manage the basics of GNU/Linux and introduces open-source fundamentals.
This 4-day course familiarises you with Linux and its components. Learn to choose and install a Linux distribution suited to your needs or your organisation's requirements, perform basic administration tasks from the command line, and secure your Linux system.
At the end of these Linux classes, a mock examination assesses your understanding of every topic covered. It prepares you to take the Linux Essentials examination 010-160, included in our offer. Passing it earns you your first foundational Linux certification from the Linux Professional Institute (LPI).
Objectives
The Linux Essentials course develops the following skills:
- Understand open-source software, its communities and licences.
- Identify open-source business applications and their closed-source equivalents.
- Understand the basic hardware, processes, programs and components of a Linux operating system.
- Use the command line and work with files.
- Create and restore backups and compressed archives.

Find your way around Linux
- Basic Linux command lines.
- Help commands and navigation through different help systems.
- Navigate home and system directories and list files in different locations.
- Create, move and delete files and directories in the home directory.
Use the Linux command-line console
- Archive files in the user's home directory.
- Search for and extract data from files in the home directory.
- Convert repetitive commands into simple scripts.
Choose a Linux distribution
- Essential operating systems and Linux distributions.
- Components required to configure a Linux desktop or server.
- Store different types of information on a Linux system.
- Important network configuration settings and the basic requirements for connecting a computer to a local network.
Secure files and manage access rights
- User categories.
- Create users and groups.
- Modify file access rights and ownership.
- Special directories and files on Linux, including special access permissions.
Prepare for the Linux Essentials 010-160 examination
- Take a mock examination and review the answers.
- Take the official examination:
