Presentation
AIX is an operating system developed and distributed by IBM (International Business Machines Corporation). Based on Unix, it is designed to run on IBM server families (System p, System i and System z), as well as desktop computers with PowerPC processors.
On this course, you will discover how to use measurement and analysis tools to optimise system performance. These tools enable you to identify and reduce hardware and software constraints affecting system performance.
By the end of each lesson, you will be able to configure each component (network, memory, CPU, etc.) to meet specific requirements. Various methods are presented through numerous practical exercises.
Objectives
By the end of the Power Systems AIX IV course, you will achieve the following skills objectives:
- Understand and describe performance terminology.
- Discover system optimisation methods.
- Identify the basic AIX tools used to monitor, analyse and optimise the system.
- Identify common bottlenecks in the central processor, Virtual Memory Manager, Logical Volume Manager, internal disk I/O system and network.

Prerequisites
The Power Systems AIX IV course requires:
- Fundamental AIX system administration skills.
- Practical TCP/IP networking experience.
- Advanced PowerVM knowledge: micropartitioning and Virtual I/O Server use.
