IBM® PowerVM is a high-performance virtualisation technology available on servers with IBM Power processors. It combines software and hardware features to deliver flexible, secure virtualisation services. PowerVM represents both evolution and innovation, which explains its widespread deployment in businesses worldwide.
This course is designed for experienced IBM system administrators with AIX operating system skills who want to discover and implement PowerVM. Lessons cover processor resource virtualisation, the use of IVE (Integrated Virtual Ethernet) and VIOS (Virtual I/O Server) modules, and much more.
Finally, this 5-day course enables you to understand, test and implement different high-availability solutions in a virtualised environment.
Objectives
By the end of the IBM Implementing Virtualisation course, you will achieve the following skills objectives:
- Understand the benefits of implementing a virtual input/output management system.
- Describe how a Virtual I/O Server works and identify its devices.
- Configure virtual SCSI devices based on physical volumes, logical volumes, optical media devices and file-based devices.
- Create an optical media repository, load a CD image and use it to install a new AIX partition.
- Configure virtual Fibre Channel devices using NPIV technology.
- Configure Ethernet link aggregation for load balancing and backup channels in VIOS.
- Configure Shared Ethernet Adapter failover and load sharing.
- Configure vNIC failover.
- Perform Virtual I/O Server maintenance.
